The five love languages of tone.
Looking for love.
In today’s blog we explore the new VaLEDine’s Day Makoyii by dialing in five distinctive tones for different applications. Join us as we go looking for love in all the right places.
Chords of affirmation. 0:00 – 0:55
We begin our journey by strumming some chords on our trusty Fender Duo-Sonic. With LOVE and TONE set between two and three o’clock and PAIN all the way down we get a lovely boosted clean sound with added body and compression. This is a great alternative to a fully clean sound; you get more dynamic sensitivity and sustain but maintain enough clarity for complex chording.
Quality tone. 0:56 – 1:46
Now let’s bring the TONE down a pinch and add a tiny bit of PAIN. The result is a touch sensitive drive that oozes character without sacrificing low end, getting you all the grit and sparkle but never sound thin or shrill.
Physical touch sensitivity. 1:47 – 2:33
For this section we will leave LOVE where it is and set both TONE and PAIN to roughly eleven o’clock. This setting creates a crunchy driven amp tone that just begs for heavy handed rhythm playing. You get tons of warm low-end drive but with a nice chiming top end that is emphasized when you play harder. The more you dig in, the more you’ll find to love.
Axe of love. 2:34 – 3:36
Now that we’ve seen the milder side of VaLEDine’s Day Makoyii, let’s get to know the wilder side. For this example, we will turn up the TONE and add more PAIN to achieve a tough and full sounding distortion. The tone here is thick with a growling low end, punchy mids, and enough high-end bite to keep your tone from getting lost in a band mix.
Receiving riffs. 3:37 – 4:22
Love isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, sometimes it’s blown speakers and broken guitar strings. We can sympathize, and it is for those times that this last section is dedicated. We’ve seen it be mild, we’ve seen it be wild, but what happens when we crank the PAIN all the way up? The result is a huge distortion with a wooly low end and sizzling highs that balance in a pleasing saturation that sits right on the edge of fuzz. Could it be love?
Let’s make some noise.
