Adding growl and wow to your bass.

Don’t neglect your bass tone.

In today’s video, we are running bass through both drive and reverb to create a mean and spacious tone that will help you shine through in any mix.

0:00 - 0:15 The bypass signal.

We’ll start out with a brief example of the bypass tone. For this example we are playing finger-style and using the neck pickup of our Fender Mustang bass.

0:16 - 0:30 Bring on the growl.

In this section we’ll use Makoyii to add some grit and grind. With volume and gain both set around 10 o’clock we get a warm and harmonically rich grind that responds to the dynamics of your playing without creating excess noise. Makoyii also excels at giving you the growl you’re looking for without wrecking your low end, making it an excellent option for bass, synths, or any other application where retaining low end is essential.

0:31 - 1:38 Put some spring on that thing.

Now that we have some grit dialed in from Makoyii, let’s add some classic spring drip from Buffalo Days. For this example both mix and depth are set around 3 o’clock. The result is a spacious and tasty reverb that adds a nice tail to the end of each phrase and helps to glue everything together for a more polished overall sound.

Let’s make some noise!

Now that we’ve explored the possible, let’s go and create the impossible. Visit here for Buffalo Days and here for Makoyii.
