No gain, no pain.

No gain, no pain

You don’t need a ton of gain to make an impact. Stacking drive pedals is a great way to achieve complex textures.

We’ll have look the NativeAudio Makoyii and War Party individually, then combine the two. When combined, they make an interesting hybrid.

Let’s explore.

Clean Tone

It’s clean tone, nothing wild here.

Makoyii – Low Gain

The Makoyii dominates all gain ranges but something fun happens at the lower range. You’ll hear a clean yet boosted signal that provides a beefy character to your bypass. The Makoyii then adds subtle compression, letting each note breath and have sustain.

War Party – Low Gain

War Party is ready to deliver some RAT-inspired crunchy tones out of the gate. The focused drive tightens up the low end and adds a top-end sparkle. One thing consider in this section is the War Party’s ability to retain the clarity of the chording while supplying a light crunch.

Makoyii and War Party Stacked:

Okay, this is where the real magic happens. Combined, we hear a new set of untouched harmonics. The introduced harmonics are created from the War Party’s ability to open the high-end on Makoyii. Simultaneously, Makoyii restores some of the low end back into War Party. Both drives are still at minimum, but we hear an overall increase in gain. The Makoyii’s boost directs War Party’s aggressiveness into another level of gain. The gain may be sitting at a higher level but due to the dynamic character of both drive pedals, we’re able to maintain clarity of the chorded notes. Finally, during the strumming of the last note, we’re reminded of Makoyii’s compression through the punchiness of the dirty crunch.

Like peanut butter and jelly, these two are a match made in heaven. Now it’s time to go and explore some interesting tones of your own.

Let’s make some noise.
