Releasing a small herd.

We’re releasing a small herd of War Pony out into the wild that will be available for today only at NativeAudio.com. War Pony is an overdrive and distortion, delivering tone that’s aggressive, wild, and designed for battling a range of tonal situations. Originating from our War Party, War Pony completely removes all boundaries when it comes to NativeAudio design. From the fresh layout to the updated and destructive tonal characteristics, War Pony is here to wage war on bad tone.

TLDR.

Who’s War Pony for?

For the musician who’s ready to wage war on bad tone and needs an overdrive/distortion that’ll provide something that’s thick and super sick.

What’s War Pony for?

Delivering an unapologetic and aggressively wild range of dirt tone that’s ready to battle any tonal situation.

If this sounds up your alley, we dive into the deets below.

War Pony - an extension of the warrior.

The term “War Pony” is in reference to the warrior’s beloved war horse. In Native American culture, the horse was an extension of the warrior. The warrior would proudly ride their War Pony into battle, earning them approval and prominence within the tribe. The War Pony would often be painted with the same pattern and colors that the warrior used in battle, and it was through these markings the story of the warrior was told.

Not a snoozer.

With the textured gray enclosure and fire-engine red print, it doesn’t take much to notice that the War Pony’s enclosure is here to make a statement. As with most of our small run of exclusive pedals, we aim to deliver something that’s different, exciting, and way more than just a commodity (snooze) pedal that you can find on the shelf. We did a complete overhaul on the layout, and we’ve even went as far as designing an entirely new circuit board for this thing!

Go big or go home.

The tone is so massive for War Pony that we couldn’t hold it within the bounds of our typical enclosure size. We decided to go big and how big you might ask? The new enclosure size has a width that’s 40% larger than our standard NativeAudio enclosure. That’s right, we ain’t playing. Oh yeah, the fun doesn’t stop there either.

NativeCo.

At NativeAudio, we’re about celebrating heritage and if you’re familiar with War Party, you know that its roots lie within ProCo’s legendary RAT Distortion. We decided to roll back the clock and take inspiration from the 70s on this one. The throwback vibes feature in-line knobs, large enclosure, fire-engine red print, rotational indicators, military-like typeface, and a 3D NativeCo. emblem at the bottom of the enclosure.

A complete hardware overhaul.

You don’t have to be a scientist to know that a 40% increase of enclosure means that you can’t just retrofit the same War Party circuit board into the enclosure. Nope, we had to craft an entirely new circuit board that fit with the updated coordinates of the enclosure. Was it hard?  A little bit but we decided to make some major tweaks while we were under the hood and hot rod this puppy into a whole new beast!

Thick and hardy.

We hooked War Pony up with our hybrid clipping which is two entirely different clipping styles (diode and LED) that in return creates something super tasty. In addition, we completely reworked the high pass filtering that’s integrated into the gain circuitry to further open the doors to creativity.

How does this new gain structure sound? It has all the tube-like response that you get from asymmetrical clipping but with the hybrid and newly filtered approach, you get the following:

  • Additional headroom for low frequency content. The low frequencies retain their structure through all levels of gain, making this pedal perfect for all bass lovers and guitarist who don’t mind thick tone.

  • No bacon sizzle. No annoying bacon sizzle sound when you push the pedal to towards the higher gain range, only smooth and elegant tone that’s a little rageful.

  • High-end clarity. Every single note can be heard at all stages of gain so whether your slinging jangly tunes or throwing down the D-stortion, individual notes maintain maximum clarity when met with complex chording.

A big ole thank you.

We always have a ton of fun doing these exclusive builds, it challenges us both creatively and pushes us to adventure into the unknown as a small business – a little scary but love the thrill.

War Pony was truly a little off the normal path in both appearance and tone but the amount of inspiration that came from creating this build was priceless, and we’re happy to bring this one into the world!

The fact this we get to do stuff like this is insane and we have you to thank for all the support!

Much love.

As of 11/16/23, the War Pony order window is no longer available.
